Position Overview:
Atrium Health Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, NC, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Full-Time Hand and Upper Extremities Surgeon to join our orthopedic team. This opportunity allows for the unique chance to step into an established, robust practice as the retiring surgeon transitions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in hand and upper extremity surgeries and be ready to serve a diverse patient population. There are also opportunities for general orthopedic surgery and hip fracture care, allowing for a well-rounded and dynamic practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert care in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of hand and upper extremity conditions, including fractures, tendon injuries, arthritis, nerve entrapments, and deformities.
Perform both elective and emergency surgical procedures related to hand and upper extremity conditions.
Develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients, including surgical and non-surgical options.
Work closely with other orthopedic specialists to provide collaborative care, including opportunities for general orthopedic surgery and hip fracture care.
Participate in patient consultations, evaluations, and follow-ups, ensuring thorough documentation and care coordination.
Engage in preoperative and postoperative management, monitoring patient progress and recovery.
Stay current with advancements in hand and upper extremity surgery and continuously strive for improved patient outcomes.
Provide mentorship and guidance to surgical staff, residents, and medical students as appropriate.
Participate in the on-call rotation, providing after-hours care as needed for trauma or urgent cases.
Work Schedule:
Full-time position with a mix of clinic hours and surgical procedures.
Flexible scheduling with the potential for work-life balance.
Call coverage shared with the orthopedic team as needed.
Opportunities to expand into general orthopedic surgery and hip fracture care as part of a growing department.
Required Qualifications:
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery with a focus on Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery
Current, unrestricted medical license in North Carolina or ability to obtain one
Experience in both hand and upper extremity surgery, with a solid understanding of anatomy, pathophysiology, and advanced surgical techniques
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach to care
Ability to handle a high volume of patients while maintaining quality care and compassion
Interest or experience in general orthopedic surgery and hip fracture management a plus
